delivered to support vendor selection and planning
Maersk Tankers, a leader in the shipping industry, needed to ensure compliance with new regulations for a mandatory piece of vessel equipment. This meant docking its entire fleet within two years, a significant operational challenge.
The dry-docking process was unstructured, leading to delays, overspending, and inconsistent quality. Existing process maps were incomplete, and system requirements lacked clarity, making it difficult to follow a structured software development approach. This created risks for both operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
We started by reviewing the high-level process maps and initial system requirements provided by Maersk Tankers. Through in-depth discussions with subject matter experts and validation workshops, we refined and expanded the process maps to a detailed level 4. This work laid the foundation for identifying and prioritising 253 functional requirements.
Each requirement was mapped against the improved process models, ensuring clarity and alignment. We then compiled a comprehensive Functional Requirements Report, adding the necessary supporting details. Finally, we created a structured RFQ (Request for Quotation) pack, equipping Maersk Tankers with all the necessary documentation for vendor selection and implementation planning.
By taking a structured yet dynamic approach, we helped Maersk Tankers streamline their dry-docking process, ensuring regulatory compliance while improving efficiency and cost control.
